Welsh's saw a need for a real Penning saddle. Not a modified Reiner or Cutter. So we designed and built our own Penning tree. A tree designed especially for the sport of Penning. This tree is exclusive to Welsh's and Rocky Mountain Saddlery. The front is high like a cutter but angled forward for a competitive secure riding position. The seat is flat and narrow with a shallow rise to the gullet. This allows you to position yourself with with your animal easily. The horn is designed exclusively for this saddle and is also angled forward for better positioning. The skirts and rigging are designed for maximum contact between horse and rider. #40 Series Pleasure Saddles

The #40 series saddles are our best selling trail/pleasure saddles. They come in 14", 15", 16", 17" seat sizes. The #42 model has a hand tooled basket stamp finish. The #43 adds a hand laced rawhide horn with a pie crust rawhide cantle with stainless steel lacing along with Montana Silversmith conchos. The #43 also has stitched edges for that added custom finish. The #44 is the same as the #43 only with rough-out seat and fenders. The #45 (not shown) adds fully tooled back jockeys, skirts, flank cincha straps and front, along with the other #43 features.

The Big Horn Cordura saddles are lightweight, extremely durable saddles built by the Big Horn Saddle Company. Big Horn uses the same saddle trees and quality leather used in other mid-priced saddles. Cordura is subsitued for Fenders and the skirts. This makes for an extremely lightweight (15" Cordura Saddle weighs in at 18 pounds) tough saddle. Cordura is both water-proof and extremely flexible. The front, horn, seat jockeys and cantle are made from top quality skirting leather. The seat is made with split leather for comfort and grip. At Welsh's we carry a good selection of seat sizes with square and round skirts available. Cordura saddles feature Blevins buckles and stainless steel fittings. Semi and full quarter horse trees are available. You can buy a Cordura Saddle in any color you want as long as its black or brown.
